New building brings hope of clearing backlog

Published on:

This refers to the report, “‘Bench, Bar must strive for clearing pendency of cases'” (March 20). With Chief Justice of India TS Thakur inaugurating a grand new building of the lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court, a wave of relief has swept over the people, and justice-seekers in particular. Chief Justice Thakur’s stress on the need for coordination between both the institutions — the Bench and the Bar — for the redressal of people’s problems, assumes importance given the huge pendency of cases in courts.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s observation at the inaugural function that a better understanding among the three pillars of democracy — judiciary, legislature and executive — is essential to meet people’s interests, carries weight, even as he has promised to continue his Government’s support to the Bench as well as the Bar to meet further requirements of the Bench. The state-of-the-art facilities that are available in the new building complex should help clear the case backlog to some extent.
