Sir — This refers to US Secretary of State John Kerry’s recent visit to India. The fifth round of India-US Strategic Dialogue between the Secretary of State and Union Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj held in New Delhi should be seen as a prelude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Washington in September.
India-US ties had lost direction and momentum during the second term of the UPA regime, and one hopes that Mr Kerry’s visit will give it a new boost. Mr Modi knows very well the importance of bilateral ties between the two countries. If India can get it right with the US, then it should have more room to manoeuvre with regards to its ties with Pakistan, China, Russia and Japan.
