Nepal will be mistaken to pick China over India

Published on:

This refers to the editorial, “India-bashing in Nepal” (October 6). It seems that a section of Nepalese politicians is conspiring with China to enact laws that ignore the major stakeholders in the Himalayan country. To expect that, in such a situation, India will keep quiet and then help manage the fallout later, is absurd. Nepal is becoming a breeding ground for anti-India activities. If it falls into China's lap, it will become a failed state.

The roots of this problem can be traced to the assassination of King Birendra — in which, some believe though without evidence, that China had a role. The hardening of stances and loose comments made by pro-China Nepalese politicians will not help Nepal progress.

Think about it: With how many of its neighbours does China have good relationsIJ Someone needs to explain this to the Nepalese political class before it becomes too late. China will pull Nepal down, like it has done with Pakistan.
