This refers to the report, “Snooping leaves Netaji's kin ‘outraged’” (April 11). Revelations from recently declassified documents that the Government had spied on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s family members for more than two decades, have shocked and outraged not only the leader’s kin but the whole country. Reportedly, the Intelligence Bureau had done all this at the behest of then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. It indicates that Nehru was not sure that Netaji had died in the 1945 air crash and strengthens the general perception that the first Prime Minister was paranoid about Netaji Bose.
Scholar Purabi Roy has rightly demanded that the role of the Indian Government, if any, in the fate that befell Netaji in the erstwhile Soviet Union, should be investigated. The Modi Government should declassify all the secret files related to this great leader. Otherwise, the people will not forgive the BJP and its allies for their duplicity on the issue.
