Needless extremism

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Blackmail at its worst” (May 30). The BJP, which has all along taken a stand against the continuance of Article 370 of the Constitution, is now in power at the Centre. The Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office only said that the abrogation of Article 370 will be debated with stakeholders. Is this wrongIJ

We are a democracy and there is no issue which cannot be debated in a democratic manner. Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s statement, that the State will not be part of India if Article 370 ceased to exist, is undemocratic and unacceptable.

So was the statement of Mr Farooq Abdullah before the lok Sabha election about Kashmir leaving India if a “communal” (read BJP) Government came to power in New Delhi. Jammu & Kashmir’s accession to the Indian Union is final and irrevocable.
