This refers to the editorial “Threat to fragile peace” (June 6). The recurring violence along the porous international border in the North-East is a cause of great concern. The Indian Army appeared to have been caught off guard when its convoy was attacked by militants in Manipur. The National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang) seems hell-bent to make the Governments on both sides of the border yield to its pressure tactics. However, it is unlikely to succeed in India because of a firm Government at the Centre that is determined to tackle insurgency. However, New Delhi cannot afford to be complacent.
Manipur has already sealed its border with Myanmar. The fragile borders needs to be made fool-proof, so that militants can escape to the other side. India has done well to seek Myanmar's permission to allow the Indian Army across the border, so as to fight the insurgents. Both countries have to trust each other to eliminate the common terror.
