Need a global response against global terror

Published on:
This refers to the editorial, “Global day of terrorism” (June 29). The terror attacks in France, Tunisia and Kuwait were dreadful acts, carried out by perverted minds without any fear or shame. Terrorism has become global since the world powers are not fighting the jihadi forces in a united manner. Though the root cause of last week’s terror attacks may have been Shia-Sunni enmity — Sunnis radicals seem to have been involved in all three cases — the problem crosses sectarian boundaries when there are victims from other religions as well.
India has been facing such terrorism for decades, but it wasn’t until 9/11 that the US, Europe and other powers took congnisance of our troubles. Today, they are more aware of the problem and perhaps more sympathetic to India’s complaints, but this is not sufficient. The time has come for the entire world to fight and finish this terrorism, with the all-out support of the United Nations.
