Mysterious death

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Mystery gets deeper” (July 4). The case of the unnatural death of Sunanda Pushkar on January 17 has become more complex after a senior doctor and head of the forensic department at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr Sudhir Gupta, alleged that pressure was brought on him to manipulate the post-mortem report of the deceased and that he did not succumb to the pressure but gave a report that traces of poison had been found in her body. Dr Gupta’s statement deserves attention.

The AIIMS, meanwhile, has done well to ask for a review of the forensic report by experts. The best way forward is to conduct a thorough probe into the incident.
