Monopolising the legacy of Jawaharlal Nehru

This refers to the report, “Cong spews venom against Modi on Nehru event eve” (November 14). Notwithstanding the grand old party's diminution as a pale, almost unrecognisable entity, due to its major failings under Ms Sonia Gandhi and Mr Rahul Gandhi, no lessons have been learnt. While celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of the country's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, the mother-son duo went all out to monopolise Nehru and his legacy, as if he were a corporate/commercial brand.

Instead of using the event as a meeting ground for political togetherness, in an atmosphere of love and brotherhood, they unleashed an onslaught of accusations laced with poison and hatred against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a petty-minded display, they tried to insult him by not inviting him for a function. Also, there was no attempt to dispassionately assess Nehru's strengths and weaknesses, and his achievements and failures.
