This refers to the editorial, “Rahul factor in debacle” (December 10). The editorial has clearly highlighted the Congress's penchant for glossing over the elephant in the room and seeking to elevate the absurd after every electoral setback — even one as telling as the latest resounding defeat. It is amazing and it defies logic that top Congress leaders are vying with one another to prove the un-provable that the Modi factor was insignificant in the BJP’s victory in the four States. They should be seriously concerned about their own miserable performance.
With no alternative in sight for Rahul Gandhi as the Congress's prime ministerial nominee, party leaders are assiduously engaged in discrediting Mr Narendra Modi, rather than projecting Mr Gandhi, presumably owing to the helplessness and frustration in achieving this. Unless the Congress turns away from its Modi-fixation and reaches out to the people, the results six months hence are likely to be no different for the party.
