Sir — This refers to the report, “25 unruly Cong MPs shown door” (August 4). The suspension of 25 Congress members by lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, which defied her persistent appeals to stop waving placards and sloganeering in the well of the House, may be unfortunate but will be welcomed by all those worried by the way of functioning of the highest institution of our democracy.
Almost every Session of Parliament begins with disruption by the Opposition and sometimes the entire Session is washed out without transacting any legislative business. The BJP while in Opposition, used to disrupt Parliament over its demands, right or wrong and now the Congress is also doing the same.
In no Western democracy, disrupting the legislature is the way of protest. It is only in India that the parliamentarians are making mockery of our democracy by claiming it to be their right and branding it as a form of democracy.
