Misleading term

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Needed, new narrative” (April 29). The Supreme Court of India has yet again fired at the Union Government on the appointment of an ombudsman, without considering their plea about technical difficulties. The motive of the apex court may be genuine, but is disturbing for a democratically-elected  Government. While the Sanskrit word ‘lokpal’ is nowhere equivalent to the concept of an ombudsman, it requires to be immediately replaced with a more appropriate word or adopt the word ombudsman as it is. More so, the ombudsman if used, it must first be appointed to receive and investigate the complaints against the opaque, undemocratic structure and functioning of the apex court.
