MIM win in Maharashtra to trouble Kerala parties

Published on:

This refers to the victory of the Majli-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen in a couple of Assembly seats in Maharashtra. This is indeed troublesome news for the Indian Union Muslim league and the Congress-led United Democratic Front in Kerala. If the MIM enters into the electoral fray in Kerala and if it can penetrate the Indian Union Muslim league fortress in Malappuram, that will be the end of the UDF and the Congress in Kerala.  For the last several decades, the Congress has been winning seats in Kerala only because of its alliance with the IUMl. The traditional Hindu upper caste voters of Congress are turning away from the party as the present Government is viewed as being pro-minority and anti-majority community.

Since the traditional Hindu backward caste vote-bank of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is dwindling as it has begun to turn to the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Assembly election in Kerala which is due in about 17 months from now, will most likely see new power equations in Kerala.
