Sir — This refers to the editorial, “General and his blunder” (June 29).
They say ‘power’ is intoxicating and those drunk on it tend to ignore the grim reality of mortality, even their own, and act despotically. History is replete with examples of despots like Adolf Hitler, Mussolini, Idi Amin and Saddam Hussein who met their nemesis in a most inglorious manner.
Former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf will perhaps now realise the folly of returning to his country. Not only did his hopes of ruling the country again were dashed but myriad problems stemming from his past despotic regime have returned to hound him. With the powers-that-be in Pakistan militating against him, he is truly in an unenviable situation. Truly, you reap what you sow.
