Merkel's India's visit will open new boundaries

This refers to the editorial, “An India-Germany axis” (October 7). German Chancellor Angela Merkel's visit to India is bound to open fresh avenues for India-Germany ties. The fact that Ms Merkel came to India, ignoring the challenges on the domestic front, underlines the importance she attaches to India. Similarly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's earlier visit to Berlin had significantly refurbished the friendly relations between the two countries, and Ms Merkel seems keen to build on it.

The Indo-German Climate and Renewable Alliance is a big step in India's efforts to lead from the front at the Paris climate summit to minimise global warming. Mr Modi and Ms Merkel may have as well discussed the need to  change the power structure in the United Nations. Germany has already indicated its inclination to be a part of the Clean Ganga project, and Mr Modi will do well to involve Germany in other ambitious programmes like Make in India and  Swachch Bharat Abhiyan.
