This refers to the article, “Strange are the ways of veteran leaders” (June 5) by Rajesh Singh. It has now become amply clear that Mr lK Advani is not proving to be a mentor in the BJP.
Ever since the ‘Jinnah episode' Mr Advani's actions and statements have cast a huge doubt on his position over various matters. After the debacle in the last general election, one would have expected him to step aside and allow and support the new generation of leaders to take over.
But not only has he not done that, he has been consistently running down the achievements of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. He did it most recently in Madhya Pradesh while addressing party leaders in the State. Now what kind of a leader would try and run down the sole hope of the partyIJ Certainly not one who has the party and its interests in mind. It is sad that Mr Advani, rightly credited for building the BJP to its present stature, should now be seen as the cause of infighting and groupism within the party.
