This refers to the editorial, “Wonder Woman” (February 26). It is tragic that Sridevi had to leave this world so soon. She was a terrific actor who had the right mix of method and spontaneous acting. Actor Kamal Haasan had a huge role to play in grooming her during her initial days. Before finally shifting her base to the Hindi film industry, she had had as many as 50 films with superstars like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. She was someone who started acting at a very young age and later became sole bread earner of the family.
She was one of the highest paid Hindi film actress from 1985 till 1992. And she was not called first female superstar of Hindi cinema for nothing, she earned that kind of respect because of her sheer talent and stardom. As she was brilliant in all genres right from comedy, drama to romance. Just imagine the kind of range she had — Sadma, ChaalBaaz, MOM, lamhe, Mr India.
After a long hiatus when she returned to cinema in English Vinglish, she stunned everyone with her superb performance. It will not be an exaggeration to say that during her peak she was the ‘female Amitabh Bachchan’. What a pity that after her demise, we are discussing through media — how and why she died.
