Sir — The recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his predecessor Mr Manmohan Singh has grabbed eyeballs, turned heads and captured headlines. Who sought whose appointment, has become the talk of the town. While some say that Mr Singh came to wish the Prime Minister on the Government’s completion of one year in office, others claim there is more to it than meets the eye. Either way, it is heartening that the two stalwarts with strong points and personalities of their own met; the meeting was long overdue.
The bitterness and acrimony between the BJP and the Congress had dwarfed the importance of Mr Manmohan Singh. There is no doubt that Mr Modi would have had a one-on-one with the former Prime Minister much earlier, but for the running feud between the two parties and the political atmosphere in the country. Mr Modi has displayed political acumen by meeting Mr Singh. The Prime Minister is apparently not keen to take the political rivalry that exists, to occupy their personal space.
