Mao will be remembered for his many atrocities

This refers to the article, “Don't revere a leader who killed millions” (March 13) by Rajesh Singh.

The writer has rightly noted that, while praising China's achievements in governance and economic fields, we cannot overlook its totalitarian and ruthless character inherited from its helmsman, Mao Zedong. It is unfortunate that, thanks to left-leaning intellectuals' domination in media discussions, the “unbelievable monstrosity” of Mao's tyrannical 27-year rule has not received adequate attention in our country. He used attractive slogans like, “let a Hundred Flowers Bloom”, as a cunning trap to bring out critics in the open. In his mad pursuit of superpower status Mao had no hesitation in causing the terrible toll of 70 million Chinese, including 36-38 million poor peasants due to starvation, to achieve his ‘super leader' dream.

The bare fact is that the Chinese dictator holds the despicable distinction of being the worst killer in peace time, in history today.
