Sir — This refers to the article, “Cancer in India’s belly” (November 14) by Rajesh Singh. It is difficult to believe that Jawaharlal Nehru tried to stop Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel from getting Hyderabad to accede to India.
If that had been the case, we don’t know if Nehru was under pressure by overseas factors to prevent the accession. Perhaps it was his own wisdom which made him try to stop Sardar Patel from ordering ‘police action’ against the Nizam of Hyderabad.
