This refers to the article, “Cassandras can wail on, Modi’s US visit a hit” (October 7) by Sandhya Jain. The bottom line is that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proved all pundits wrong by getting a massive mandate. Most commentators made predictions that the BJP would get not more than 200 seats and would not be able to form the Government at the Centre on its own. These people even misled the US media and others, where some vested church groups and pro-Pakistan elements started a campaign to malign India at the United Nations. They wanted Mr Modi to be treated as some kind of a fascist leader.
However, they failed miserably. The US eventually bend backwards to please Mr Modi. A section of our media is unhappy that Mr Manmohan Singh had never received such a reception in the US, and so some in the media have taken to ridicule the Indian community in the US which welcomed Mr Modi with open arms.
