This refers to the editorial, “Buck stopped with him” (March 13). There is a limit to which we can carry the burden of Mr Manmohan Singh's personal integrity and honesty. In true Congress style, he says that he will prove his innocence in a “fair trial”. In other words, if he is proved innocent, then this whole episode was a political tamasha, but if he is found guilty, then it is political vendetta.
As the stories unfurl slowly, it is seen that the then Prime Minister's Office was involved in many controversial and corruption-related decisions. That a corrupt empire flourished under the former Prime Minister's nose means that he cannot claim laurels on account of his personal honesty.
He went through humiliation by his political masters many times, and there were talks of his removal as well. Why did Mr Singh not recuse himself from the Prime Minister's postIJ We would have then appreciated his personal honesty.
