This refers to the editorial, “Despicable discourse” (November 20). It is a known fact that Congress motormouth Mani Shankar Aiyar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi aren’t the best of friends. Mr Aiyar’s classist remark during the 2014 general election, deriding Mr Modi for being a chaiwala was criticised by almost everyone, including the Congress. This time he is at it again. One thing is clear that Mr Aiyar prefers to be carefully careless about civilities when he has to speak on Mr Modi’s policies. It was highly deplorable of Mr Aiyar, when he told a Pakistani television network, during a panel discussion that India-Pakistan peace process can be resumed only after removing Mr Modi.
In light of this, to say that Mr Aiyar is an erudite scholar and a great orator is undermining his commissions and omissions. Of late, his speech was laced with contempt and condescension for different viewpoints. Many a time, his smirk betrays his elitististic pride and narcissistic personality. He was tolerated for his self-claimed nationalism which now falls flat.
