Management problem

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Think health, not politics” (September 16). With the city reeling under a surge in the number of chikungunya and dengue cases, it is shameful that the authorities have indulged in a blame-game. On the one hand, the Delhi Government, post the Delhi High Court order, has decided to sulk its way to misgovernance, parking all civic responsibilities at lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung’s doorstep. On the other hand, Jung was missing in action.

The current situation is one of management and not of prevention. The Delhi Government cannot shy away from responsibility. It should have been better prepared months before the monsoon for such an outbreak. The lieutenant Governor must create an integrated taskforce for disease prevention, surveillance and management with representation from all (warring) bodies and authorities.
