Mamata should not cover her corrupt Ministers

Published on:

This refers to the news, “CBI to probe Saradha scam: SC” (May 9). West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was regarded as one of the most honest politicians in India. And now her ‘honest image' and good governance record are under a question mark. She whole-heartedly tried to save some leaders whose names are involved in the Saradha scam. By painting her party MP Kunal Ghosh as one of main criminals, she sought to save others.

Ghosh, who was Ms Banerjee's shadow-companion in her journey towards ‘change', is now in prison. Yet for his smooth rise to power, she is equally responsible. Ms Banerjee is called as the people's leaders, but she harms people's interest most by misleading the investigation through the State machinery. This is a complete failure on the part of the State.

Criminals who may belong to any political party need instant punishment. An impartial CBI probe may protect people's interests. Transparent governance, rule of law and upholding the people's interest should be the Government’s first priority.
