This refers to the editorials, “Irresponsible conduct” (November 25) and “larger communal spread” (November 25). Both indicate different aspects of the same issue. In the case of Ms Mamata Banerjee, we have seen how her administration tried to destroy evidence in the Burdwan blast incident. The West Bengal Chief Minister has turned a blind eye to Islamist activities in the State. Support to mischief-makers, by ignoring their activities, will hurt the country.
Similarly, we see, under the Owaisi brothers, the rise of forces similar to the Muslim league led by MA Jinnah. Jinnah had proclaimed that everyone would be treated as equal in his Islamic Pakistan, but the ground reality is that the minorities have been harassed and even killed. We must not forget that Hyderabad brings back memories of atrocities committed by the Razakars on the Hindu community living there during the Nizam’s rule. The extreme stand taken by the Owaisi brothers in their public utterances is disturbing.
