MAKE IN INDIA FEAT

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Major boost” (July 11). The coming together of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Moon Jae-in is worth the praise.  But by setting up the world’s largest mobile factory unit in Noida worth 4,915 crore, Samsung, the South Korean electronics major, has taken the Make in India initiative to another level. It now plans to make India an export hub with 50 per cent of its overall production coming from this country in the next three years.

Samsung is also expected to increase its mobile phone production from 6.7 crore to 12 crore. This deal is bound to create a great opportunity for job creation.

With the new manufacturing unit, India will now rank second globally, in terms of mobile phone manufacturing. The number of mobile phone manufacturing units has seen a steady rise from just two to over 100 in just about four years of time.
