Make good the promise

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “let us hope for the best” (June 7). 

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had made some very positive remarks on ties with India during his election campaigns. He had clearly said that he would not allow militant groups to attack India from his country and would work to improve ties with New Delhi. 

He had also said in interviews that it is the Prime Minister and not the unelected Army Chief, who is the country’s ruler. History  shows that thus far the powerful Army has been the real ruler in Pakistan, setting the tone and tenor of Pakistan’s India policy. let’s see if that changes.
