Major breakthrough

This refers to the editorial, “Seizing the advantage” (December 14). Previously, the US had turned down India’s requests to access David Coleman Headley. That the latter has now turned approver in the 26/11 trial, is a major breakthrough for India.

It also signifies a dramatic shift in India-US and US-Pakistan relations. President Barack Obama’s soft corner towards Islamabad had previously delayed India’s efforts for justice in the 26/11 case. The latest approval, however, denotes Washington, DC’s growing proximity towards New Delhi. India should grab Headley’s confessions with both hands because he may have a lot to reveal on the role of the leT and the ISI in the Mumbai attacks.
