Maintain dignity

Sir — This refers to the reports “Modi, PM spar over Iron Man” (October 30). Great persons of past, who have contributed to making India independent and have taught tolerance and pluralism, are now being exploited by aggressive politicians.

Politicians should concentrate on development issues instead of on ugly negotiation of past legacy. People judge a political party by its performance in the present. 

People liked the smiling faces of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who shared the dais and respected each other’s dignity. Such platforms should not be tainted by politically-motivated remarks. It’s against our culture. Mr Modi must remember that India needs a Prime Minister like Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who, during his term, represented liberalism, far-sightedness and pluralism.
