It is a welcome step by Maharashtra Government to ensure a basic minimum standard of education for Muslim children studying in madarssas. The minority community is always cribbing about lack of job opportunities, and all sane persons will agree that theological education alone cannot ensure preparedness for today’s job market.
Those who are opposing the Government’s move perhaps do not want Muslim children to join the mainstream. Vested interests, in order to score political brownie points, are opposing this as a Right-wing agenda. Muslims must decide if they want to be in the mainstream.
