Corporator at 21 years, Mayor at 26 years and now Chief Minister-elect at 44 years, Mr Devendra Fadnavis has always been an early starter. Despite his lack of experience and the fact that he doesn't have close ties with other major players in the State, like the Congress and the NCP, Mr Fadnavis is the best choice for the post as he has a spotless reputation and is known to fight against corruption. He also has outstanding educational qualifications and is not a controversial figure. He enjoys the full support of the Prime Minister and the party president.
Mr Fadnavis's appointment, however, was not without high drama. In a State dominated by politicians who are either Marathas or from Other Backward Classes, he is only the second Brahmin chief, after the Shiv Sena's Manohar Joshi. Also, being a non-Mumbai politician, Mr Fadnavis will now be expected to understand the demands of the giant city, the country’s financial capital.
