Sir — This refers to the article, “Sachin Tendulkar must redeem his iconic status” (August 15) by A Surya Prakash. The writer has rightly asked some harsh questions to the master blaster. Clearly, his record as a member of the upper House is abysmal. However, many, including the writer, believe that even in cricket, his record as a match winner is over-rated. Records show that seldom did he come to his team’s rescue when it needed him.
By being absent from the proceedings of the upper House and worse, by not asking questions pertaining to his own field of interest viz sports administration, Tendulkar is showing another side of his character. Making time for endorsements and various business interests while putting on hold a powerful administrative positions is certainly putting a dent on his hard-earned image.
Tendulkar is treated as the ‘god of cricket’ because he lived up to that image — for most part of his life. The least he can do is to relinquish the membership for which he has no interest anyway.
