lost race

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Twin surgical strikes” (March 15). The editorial has rightly said that the Congress could not make a distinction between a marathon and a 100-metre race with respect to Government formation in the two States of Goa and Manipur, which gave a fractured verdict, with the Congress being the single largest party in each case.

In a marathon, if one lags behind in the initial or even the middle stage, there is still a possibility of the race being won, but in a 100-metre sprint, one must have to edge out one’s competitors right from the word ‘go’.

The BJP at once responded with a cheetah’s speed from the word ‘go’, while the Congress mistook it to be a far longer race to be made up in the later stage and is now beating the dead horse in a futile attempt by approaching the apex court only to be reprimanded by the latter. It seems, the Congress was so ecstatic in the euphoria over its victory in Punjab that it could not fathom the gravity of the two States being lost to the BJP.

Someone has rightly said that opportunity strikes, but only once. The Congress has let this opportunity be gone. While the BJP has encashed with both the hands.
