losing credibility

This refers to the article, “A tortuous tale of two Governments in Delhi” (December 18) by Kalyani Shankar. The CBI raid on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Principle Secretary’s office and locations points out to the fact that the CBI has lost credibility.

The hostilities exchanged between Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the BJP may be extreme, undignified and embarrassing, but it does lay bare what is deeply wrong, both about the event itself and its much larger context.

The “caged parrot” metaphor, coined by the judiciary, to depict the misuse of the CBI by the Congress, appears to have found a new claimant. Till the other day, the BJP had itself vehemently argued that the CBI was being used for political purposes by the UPA Government. The CBI charter and powers have remained unchanged, but the BJP now pretends that it has freed the caged parrot.
