long way ahead before Congress can cheer

This refers to the editorial, “Revival of a narrative” (October 17). The triumphant win of the Congress in Gurdaspur lok Sabha election has left party workers in an ecstatic mode, but to say that this is the declining trend of the Modi regime is improper as the editorial has rightly said that the mismanagement and misrule of the Akali Dal-BJP combine has contributed to the duo’s decimation and the Congress’ revival. Also, one swallow does not make a summer. As for former Union Minister Kapil Sibbal, who has held the previous UPA regime’s period as a real development one, he has not uttered such ludicrous comments for the first time. It was he, who in 2011, had stated that there was zero loss in CWG and Coal scams, which had led many to conclude that the person wielding a broom to clean the muck was standing around a heap of dirt saying that he has nothing to clean as there is no dirt anywhere!

If indeed the Grand Old Party is to regain its lost ground even to a certain extent, it is required to persuade the party high command not to coronate the scion of Nerhu Gandhi family as its president and appoint some veteran politician as its head as Rahul will spoil the prospects of the Congress more than regenerating it as there is no one in the party to question his flippant attitude.
