lone star

Sir — It has been close to three weeks since the  Supreme Court  prohibited the photographs of political leaders, with the exception of the President, the Prime Minister and the Chief Justice of India, from being splashed across Government advertisements.

Now, one hardly sees the photographs of the President and CJI in official advertisements, except when they extend greetings to the nation on national holidays. But the Prime Minister is everywhere. After the court order, we have a one-man show, wherein every ministry is focussing on the already popular Prime Minister. He figures in every other advertisement.

Also, State Governments are putting out full-page advertisements glorifying their achievements, albeit without the photograph of the Chief Minister. How has the apex court’s order helped check the misuse of tax-payers’ money by the political classIJ
