This refers to the article, “Cracks in impregnable TMC fort” (April 27) by Manash Ghosh. If the Trinamool Congress is expecting a landslide victory in West Bengal, then it is living in a fools paradise. Rightly the author has pointed out that the Kolkata flyover tragedy, the Narada sting operation and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's decision to challenge the Election Commission have diminished her party’s image.
However, only a miracle can dislodge Banerjee from her seat because the Opposition is divided between the BJP and the left-Congress combine. Had it been a two-cornered fight, it would have been a different scenario all together. Moreover, Banerjee is well versed with the political arithmetic in the State. Muslims, who were once a staunch supporter of the Congress, have now been wooed by Banerjee. Also, there is no strong political leader in the Opposition who can match her charisma. So, whether we like it or not, Banerjee will win for the second time, may be with less seats, but that is going to be a reality.
