Sir — This refers to the report, “Dec 16: Minor gets away with 3 yrs in reform home!” (September 1). The juvenile, who was part of a six-member gang in raping a 23-year-old paramedic on December 16, has been sentenced to three years in a correctional home, subject to review, adjusted with the time he has already spent in the remand home. This is a mere replication of similar events that were shown in the film, Andha Kanoon, a few decades back.
A heinous crime has been overlooked and the ‘age’ of the juvenile offender given consideration. Our judicial system seems to have again failed the victim and her grieving family. There should be only one punishment for rapists: Death.
