This refers to the news report, “Mass Killer is avenged” (July 31). I would like to say that the word ‘avenged’ is wrongly used in the present context.
An avenger is also a murderer. Probably the use of this particular word in the case of a capital punishment implies a State-sponsored murder. If only for the time being, we keep aside the incompetencies or flaws and partialities or politically-motivated moves that influence our judgement, probably a criminal who has shown utter disrespect to humanity needs to be liberated from his/her present state of mind.
