Sir — This refers to the report, “Dec 16: Minor gets away with 3 yrs in reform home!” (September 1). The first verdict in the Delhi gang rape is out. It is highly shocking but given the quibbling that was going on over the juvenile’s ‘age’, it’s not entirely surprising.
But this verdict will send a very wrong message to the juveniles, making it difficult to bring down the rate of crimes against women. The time is right to revisit the Juvenile Justice Act and amend it keeping in mind the seriousness of the crimes, rather than the age of the offender.
