Sir — This refers to the editorial, “No surrender” (May 18). Conditional ceasefire declared by the Union Government during the month of Ramzan does not appear to be appropriate. As reported, Pakistan has already violated the ceasefire.
Undoubtedly, a ceasefire will provide ample opportunity and time to the militants and terrorist organisations to unleash unrest and violence in the Valley.
Terrorists have no religion, they are indoctrinated and influenced by their fanatic ideology and, therefore, can never comply with the Union Government’s decision of a ceasefire.
The success and implementation of ceasefire depends on the reciprocal response of Pakistani forces who frequently violate the ceasefire. It is true that Pakistan will never approve of it. The Government must not jeopardise and compromise our national interest.
