Sir — This refers to the article, “life checkmates Shatranj ke Khiladi” (November 17) by Rinku Ghosh. With the demise of veteran actor Saeed Jaffrey, India has lost one of its most brilliant artistes. Jaffrey was one of the first Indians to successfully establish a career in both Hindi and international cinema.
Apart from acting, Jaffrey also formed his own theatre company and played leads in productions of William Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, Joseph Priestley, Dylan Thomas and Tennessee Williams. He was also versatile on radio; he wrote and broadcast hundreds of scripts in Hindi, Urdu and English for BBC World Service.
