Sir — If the performance of UPA1 won it a renewed mandate in 2009, that of UPA2 fell far short of people’s expectations.
Credit should go to the left parties which ensured the implementation of the common minimum programme and the pursuit of economic policies that stood the country in good stead to weather the global recession.
In the company of less principled allies in its second tenure, the UPA back-tracked on its promises and faced a series of mega scams, which have tarnished its image beyond repair. The greater the left’s presence or its influence in the Government, the better it is for the aam aadmi. And, but for a pro-active judiciary and an ever-alert media, UPA2 would have covered up the corruption scandals.
