Sir — This refers to the article, “Chasing a mirage and hoping that it’s real” (October 14) by Balbir Punj. No sensible Indian who has been following the Indian political scene will have any doubt that the familiar and failed idea of a Third Front is indeed a chimera. The so-called secularism is a weak adhesive.
The shrinking left is dying worldwide. Earlier, it was in alliance with the divisive, vote-bank obsessed Congress. Now, it is trying an alliance with discredited, blatantly casteist, communal outfits like Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party, that supports the ruling front from outside.
