This refers to the article, “Hidden agenda of different kind” (March 30) by Kumar Chellappan. The writer has correctly said that Cardinal Baselios Cleemis is busy preparing a chargesheet against India. Nothing will hurt an evangelist more than the obstacle to his harvesting the souls. The Christian world had risen on the nun rape case in West Bengal and blamed Right-wing Hindu elements for the crime. Now that it has emerged that people from across the border from Bangladesh were behind the act, the news item has gone off the front page. Similarly, investigations into the recent attack on a church in Maharashtra have shown that the culprits had nothing to do with Hindutva elements.
One item of Cardinal Cleemis’ chargesheet could be the Government’s denial of Dalit status to converted Christians for reservations purposes. On the one hand, evangelists say that they are freeing Dalit Hindus from caste shackles. On the other, they want reservations for them. This is double-talk.
