Sir — This refers to the editorial, “As our jawans die ...” (August 8). This is not just about the loss of precious lives, but also about the integrity and honour of the nation. While United States President Barack Obama cancels a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, to retaliate against Russia granting asylum to whistleblower Edward Snowden, our leaders, unmoved by the killing of our soldiers at the loC, are raring to go ahead with talks with Pakistan.
Talks of peace in the face of such provocations only demonstrate our own weakness and infirmity of purpose. National interest and self-respect should weigh more in foreign policy, as the US has shown.
