Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Mark of a true leader” (April 10). Without doubt, the style and content of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s recent presentations before different audiences across the country have placed him much ahead of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi as a leader of substance.
But to say that, in the process, he has stolen a march over the Congress, is to induct in the discussion the still-unclear scenario of a ‘NaMo versus RaGa’ electoral battle. In this scenario, Mr Gandhi enjoys a headstart, thanks to his lineage. Hence, the recent speeches of Mr Modi can be seen as a well-calculated effort to neutralise the family effect and establish a level-playing-field. It also implies that Mr Modi and his party still have to cover a lot of ground to ensure victory in the electoral battle.
