law twisted to favour actor Sanjay Dutt

Published on:

Hearing a petition which questioned the discretion used by authorities to grant parole and furlough to actor Sanjay Dutt, the Bombay High Court has rightly questioned the extension of parole for the actor.

While parole is granted in cases of emergencies at the discretion of jail authorities, furlough leave is available as a right to the prisoner as defined by the courts.Out on parole, it is reported that Sanjay Dutt has been using his time to focus on his film production business. In the past one month, he has been meeting directors for at least two films that are being planned by his production house.

Sanjay Dutt's back-to-back paroles have prompted not just a query from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs but also multiple jokes. Some say he has marked more time in jail on reel as Munnabhai than as a real life inmate. On Twitter, he is being variously described as “India's first freelance prisoner”.
