Sir — This refers to Devender Kumar, son-in-law of Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, having resigned as his personal staff, after enjoying the post illegally for eight long years, ever since his father-in-law was a Minister in the State Government. But the resignation came only after the media exposed the big irregularity, as according to a 2000 notification, family-members could not be part of official personal staff of any Minister in Bihar.
Ignorance of law is no excuse, that too for a seasoned politician like Mr Jitan Ram Manjhi. If the ignorance of law is an excuse, all prisoners in the State should be immediately released in case they claim that they were unaware that the crimes they committed were punishable!
